  • Who can play on the Junior Tour of Northern California?

To play in a Junior Tour of Northern California tournament you must meet the following requirements:
    • Have a current NCGA membership
    • Pay Junior Tour Membership Fee of $85
    • Take Mandatory Rules of Golf and Etiquette Quiz
    • Have an established Handicap Index at the time of entry into the tournament (See Handicap 101)
    • Have an index of 6.0 or lower for girls and 4.0 or lower for boys on the day of registration
    • Be between 10-18 years old by tournament day – (players under 10 can request exemption)
    • Have not started college

Before you decide to play on the Junior Tour of Northern California, be aware that we usually play courses that are between 6400-7000 yards for the Boys Championship Flight and 5700-6300 for the Girls Championship Flight. Some younger players may not be ready for courses this long so it is recommended that you wait until you think you can handle this.
  • How do I become an JTNC/NCGA member?

Membership with the NCGA is arranged through a golf club. There are many different kinds of golf clubs: public; private; associate (groups of people such as co-workers or friends); and eClubs. You can learn more about these clubs at the NCGA Become A Member page. The most economical way of joining the NCGA is through the Youth on Course program. You should join a club as soon as possible so that you can post at least 54-holes and get a handicap.

  • What does JTNC membership cost?

In addition to an annual NCGA membership fee, (which varies depending on which club you join), there is also a $85 annual membership fee.

  • How are JTNC tournaments organized?

JTNC tournaments are 36 holes over two days. Our preferred model for tournaments is to have the first 18 in the afternoon and the second 18 in the morning. This way, families can travel and play on the same day and save travel costs. This is not always possible due to the needs of the golf courses that are providing us their facilities at reduced rates. When the course has a driving range, range balls are also included. Lunch may be provided at selected events.

  • How are flights decided?

The flights are for girls who have handicap indexes of 6.0 or lower or boys with indexes of 4.0 or lower. Your Handicap Index at the time of the last day of registration will determine if you are eligible to play. If it changes before the tournament, you will not be moved into the active field or be contacted if needed to be removed from the active field.

  • How much do JTNC tournaments cost?

The average cost is $175 for the majority of our tournaments; however, in some cases the tournament fee may vary depending on venue. The tournament fee includes golf and range balls for two days. There is also a $85 annual membership fee. If there are financial issues that make it difficult for you to pay these fees, please complete the Financial Hardship Request Form.

  • How do I sign up for JTNC tournaments?

Please create a new (or renew) Membership under the Membership tab on our home screen. From there you may select the button that reads “Create an Account”. Make sure that you have done the three required actions to register for tournaments: Paid the $85 Junior Tour Membership Fee, have a current NCGA membership and taken the mandatory Rules of Golf Quiz. Once you have created your account, you will get an email that confirms things are set up. After that, please go to our Tournaments tab on our home page to register for events. You will see a list of tournaments. Any tournament that is open will say Register Now. Registration will open at 8:00 am on the specified dates.

  • I missed the tournament registration window, can I still register?

Late Registrations may be accepted if the field has room. Read the Late Registration page for full information.

  • How is the field selected for the tournament?

All players will be put on a waitlist once registration opens. Players will be given 48 hours to register for the event before we will fill to three quarter capacity by lot. Any players not selected will remain on the waitlist. We will wait to fill the remaining spots in the field until after registration has closed. Players will be moved in by random draw. Additionally some spots remaining may be filled at a player’s request if they have been on the waiting list for other prior events and have not participated in an event. To be honored this request needs to come prior to the remaining spots in the tournament being filled prior to registration closing.  Once this request has been granted the player will not be able to use this “exception” again, as they will have now gotten into at least one tournament.   In general the field is set by pulling players off of the waitlist by random draw. This makes the registration process fair to all players. Read more about the Field Selection Process.

  • I’m on the waiting list, how can I find out my status?

Waitlists are managed independently for each flight. Please Contact Us to find out what spot you are on the waitlist.

If registration is closed and the field has already been filled, if a player from your flight withdraws and you are the first person on the waitlist for that flight, you will be automatically moved into the tournament. You will also receive an email confirmation from BlueGolf when your registration has been approved detailing that you are now active in the field.

  • How do I withdraw from a tournament? What's the refund policy for withdrawals?

If you need to withdraw from a tournament you may withdraw online in advance of the tournament. Failure withdraw yourself or to notify the NCGA Offices will cause the player to be listed as a NO SHOW, resulting in a ONE YEAR SUSPENSION FROM ALL NCGA/JTNC EVENTS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR FOLLOWING THE INFRACTION.

Please understand that if you are on our waiting list and are no longer available to play, we expect you to manage your spot and take yourself off of the list. If we get your name on the waitlist, we assume you want to play and you will be moved into the event and your card will be charged. Our standard refund policy will then apply.

Refunds: Refund less $10.00 if requested prior to the registration closing date. 50% refund if withdrawal is after the registration closing date, but before two business days of the tournament.  No refunds within two business days of the tournament.

  • Are the results sent to Junior Golf Scoreboard?

Yes, we will send results for all 36 hole tournaments to Junior Golf Scoreboard for ranking. Junior Golf Scoreboard asks for players’ high school graduation year. Please be sure this is completed on your registration profile.

  • Does the AJGA recognize Junior Tour of Northern California tournaments?

Yes, read more about AJGA PBE Status.

  • Can a junior accept financial assistance from an outside party and keep his or her amateur status?

JTNC and NCGA work together to help those who need financial aid in order to play in our events. For information on possible support, please complete the Financial Hardship Request Form.
